Is it possible to create a service which is always running in the background and listening to the offline chirps even when the app is turned off ?

Hi Sunil,

Thanks for the question.

It is certainly possible to have Chirp running in a background service and for it to hear Chirps whilst the associated app is not in the foreground.

You would need to make sure that the Service is kept running. The Android OS may terminate services in low memory and possibly other situations. I would recommend using a foreground or sticky service.

We suspect that this may impact the reliability of Chirp slightly, as the Chirp audio thread could be given a lower priority by the Android OS. Our current reliability metrics assume that the app is in the foreground.

Hi, how about iOS - can a user chirp to a device which is running the app in the background (screen turned off)?
